Yay! Happy Holidays! Just a quick one to say the long weekend has been nice. X-mas Eve Angelo and I made a little cardboard x-mas tree with little cardboard ornaments (one of the above). X-mas morning presents and waffles! Lots of good stuff. X-mas evening we went to Angelo’s Friend’s house for a wheat-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, but still very tasty dinner. His friend is one of the lead guys who works on After Effects. I think it’s kinda weird that around this time last year I was just learning how to use it and a year later I’m having Christmas dinner with one of the people that make it.
My latest thing I’m trying to learn is Processing. I think I first sort of heard about it when I was interning at HA. A lot of the developers would sort of just say “oh yeah, that’d be easy with processing” when tossing ideas around. And I started to see some cool stuff people were doing with it. And at OFFF I saw A LOT of really interesting stuff people were making with it. Seems like it’s gotten pretty big especially this past year.
So I picked up Processing: A Programming Handbook for Visual Designers and Artists a while ago. I’m only on page 37 but it’s already pretty neat. I definitely have to say it’s a really good book. It’s interesting how much more interesting programing can be when it’s put into this different context. The book (and processing) really is geared towards the visually inclined which is great. Anyways, so far I’ve just learned basic things but here’s the first “toy” I’ve made on my own from some of those things. It’s pretty simple, but I thought it was kinda fun (Click to play with it):
