Sometimes I get bored of the stuff that comes out of the advertising/mograph world. Seeing alot of the same tricks & fads being recycled and whatnot. I wonder, “Am I really that jaded already? After only being in the industry for a year?” And then all of a sudden I’ll be sitting on my couch not really paying much attention to the tv, when something comes on and I can’t take my eyes off of it. And it restores my faith in the potential to make cool shit while working for The Man.
This is one of them. Actually, this is the longer, music video version of the 60 sec. cut down I saw earlier tonight. It’s a video/commercial/viral/marketingploy featuring N.E.R.D., Santogold and Julian Casablancas, produced by Pharrell. for Converse shoes. After I saw it I immediately went online to see who did it (I knew it had to be someone big) and not surprisingly turns out it was Psyop.
It doesn’t make me want to buy Converse shoes. But it did make me go to the Converse site and try to download the song like they said I could. Yes, their marketing bait worked on me like a charm. It’s a cool pop-tastic song. I want it. But of course when I tried to download it, it crashed Firefox, twice. Oh well. I gave up trying. I’m your short attention span target audience who doesn’t want to work very hard to get something that should be instant and easy.
Of course being of the short-attention span type it is pretty amazing to me when I come across ads that I genuinely enjoy watching repeatedly. The whole paper stop motion type stuff is actually pretty overplayed normally, but for whatever reason I really like this one. Maybe partially cause i really like the song. Something about it makes me really want to watch it a bunch. And I guess that’s all you can really ask for in a spot, especially in our information overloaded world.
I realize that by posting this I’m just fueling their marketingploy, but whatever. I like looking at it. And I haven’t had many “cool shit” posts in a while. Your regularly scheduled ramblings of the post college female early 20’s short attention span media junkie will resume shortly.
