DoInk is awesome

DoInk.com is like the greatest thing ever. Well, in the world of free animation tools at least. It’s basically a very simplified online drawing and animating tool, it’s very similar to animating in flash, except much more intuitive and enjoyable to use. They’re still in the alpha phase of development but I can see how it could grow into something really great.

Aside from the fact that it’s free and liberates animation for all, it’s cool that it’s also a collaborative effort. You can search for elements that other people are sharing or share your own, so you don’t have to be able to draw everything yourself if you don’t want to. I made the little bunny animation above at work just while I was waiting for something. It hardly took any time at all and I immediately got all sorts of comments on it from other users. It’s pretty amazing how quickly you can make something that tons of people can see. DoInk is one of the sites on my list that I’m in love with.

That got me thinking about what other sites I feel emotionally attached to, and how amazing it is that people can make sites that I can instantly get excited about, return to over and over, fall in love with:

  • Mint
  • Flickr
  • Gmail
  • Yelp
  • Mento
  • Facebook
